Ⅳ. Prominent Experts

In the field of electrical engineering and energy research, the school has invited Academician Zhou Xiaoxin, Academician Chen Weijiang, and Academician Tang Guangfu as academic leaders. At the same time, it has appointed Academician Li Jiangang, Academician Zhu Ziqiang, and Academician Xia Changliang as advisory professors, leading the rapid development of various teams in the field of electrical engineering. The school is also in the process of bringing in academicians and other experts to lead teams in the field of automation and other areas. These experts closely interact with the research teams and teachers of the school, providing guidance, leadership, and assistance in the development of research teams and young teachers.

Ⅴ. Personal Growth and Team Development

1. Measures for Personal Growth

Discussing research growth plans with young researchers: Organize a team of experts led by academicians to provide consultation and assistance in research topics, practical experiences, and goals. Strive to obtain various resources (including platforms, projects, consulting experts, etc.) to help young researchers achieve their goals in the shortest possible time and with the best possible results.

Facilitating the acquisition of teaching skills: The school arranges for each new young teacher to be mentored by an experienced teacher in the same field, providing one-on-one guidance in teaching. This helps young teachers adapt to the work model of teaching and research in the shortest possible time.

Providing management practice opportunities: Advocate for a more youthful management model in discipline-department-research office and institutes. Create management positions such as discipline secretaries and research office directors (department vice directors) to provide opportunities for young researchers to practice advanced management concepts.

2. Team Development Case

In 2017, Academician Chen Weijiang formed the High Voltage and Insulation Technology team as an academic advisor. In just over two years, the team has grown to include one professor, two associate professors, two lecturers, and three postdoctoral researchers. They established the Institute of Electromagnetic Energy Technology and Applications, focusing on areas such as lightning, electromagnetic and equipment, electromagnetic and materials, and electromagnetic testing. The team has successfully undertaken projects funded by the National Major R&D Program, Key Projects of National Natural Science Foundation, and other programs, with a total funding of approximately 28 million yuan. The construction of a high-voltage experimental hall and supporting laboratories is nearing completion, and research work in plasma applications and electromagnetic-biological fields is also being planned.

Ⅵ. Development Opportunities

The school is responsible for the construction of the Smart Power Grid Research Center, one of the four research centers of the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center Energy Research Institute (Anhui Provincial Energy Laboratory). The Energy Research Institute is a new type of research and development institution under the provincial innovation mechanism, aiming to meet the requirements of the national energy laboratory construction. The institute will gather various resources to coordinate basic research, applied basic research, and technological innovation, aiming to build a world-class breakthrough-oriented, leading, and platform-based comprehensive research base.

The Smart Power Grid Research Center will focus on the deep integration of energy and power with modern information technology. It will deploy four research directions in commanding and controlling multi-energy power systems, advanced power conversion, energy storage systems, and energy equipment and facility security. The goal is to build a world-class research platform, address major scientific problems, enhance original innovation capabilities, and foster transformative technologies.

According to the approved plan by the provincial government, the institute will receive an investment of 3.76 billion yuan over the next five years, of which approximately 812.2 million yuan will be used for the construction of the Smart Power Grid Center. By 2025, the center aims to establish an innovative team consisting of 200 full-time and part-time high-tech talents and 500 graduate students. It also plans to initially establish four research platforms in smart power systems, advanced power conversion, energy storage systems, and energy equipment and facility security.

In line with the development of the Energy Research Institute and the school's discipline development plan, the school will focus on the construction of the following three research platforms in the near future:

1. Power Electronics Packaging and Reliability Laboratory

Focusing on the basic electrical materials and devices in the smart power grid, the laboratory aims to break through the integrated packaging technology and reliability bottlenecks that limit the performance of next-generation power devices in high-temperature, high-frequency, high-voltage, and strong radiation environment applications. With an investment of 10 million yuan, a power electronics device reliability testing platform has been established, and approximately 50 million yuan will be further invested in the construction of power electronics packaging-related research platforms. The goal is to build the most advanced power semiconductor research and development testing platform domestically and internationally. A cross-disciplinary comprehensive research and development team of about 100 people will be formed in collaboration with the Energy Research Institute, the 43rd Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and power semiconductor companies.

2. Electromagnetic (Energy) Science and Application Laboratory (High Voltage Laboratory)

Based on the second-level discipline of high voltage and insulation technology, the laboratory aims to expand the traditional high-voltage research field. It is constructing a large-scale aircraft lightning test facility (which has been approved by relevant departments and invested heavily in the construction of an indoor lightning test research system with the highest voltage level internationally). Within 1-2 years, it aims to establish a provincial and ministerial-level key laboratory with electromagnetic (lightning) science and technology application as its core. The laboratory will conduct research in areas such as lightning-electromagnetic, electromagnetic-materials, electromagnetic-testing, electromagnetic-biological, and electromagnetic-plasma, with the goal of building a national-level research base.

3. Robotics Laboratory

Based on the disciplines of automation and electric machines, the school will establish a robotics laboratory. With high-performance motors as the foundation, the laboratory will focus on visual graphics and image processing, intelligent positioning, intelligent recognition, and intelligent control. In 4-5 years, it aims to form the first echelon of research in key components and key technologies for high-end robotics.
